Essay on Gender Differences - 591 Words

Gender Differences When each of us was in our mothers womb and shortly after we were conceived we did not have anything or anyone influencing the way we acted. After birth within a couple of months, although we do not remember but we can observe, our fathers and mothers were bearing an influence on our lives. While we were growing up and still to this day our surroundings influenced the way we think and behaved in our daily lives. These traits that people portray have been a cause of culture bearing down on society for a long time influencing people to become masculine or feminine. Though this is a tough statement to defend because it has been happening for so long that it seems normal. It seems as though there is a direct relationship between the male being masculine and the female being feminine, but is there? After the reading and thinking in depth about this subject I now question the actual relationship of the masculine male and the feminine female. To put an answer to my stated question I would say that in todays society the two are directly related. Society has forced males to be the masculine guys that work on cars drink beers and watch football. And in just the opposite case the women have been molded to think that they are supposed to cook dinner and clean the house. More frequently however, I have seen somewhat of an evening out in the role of the standard male and female. Why Should We Protect Sharks

Sharks have a fierce reputation. Movies such as Jaws and sensationalized shark attacks in the news and on TV shows have led the public to believe that sharks need to be feared, or even destroyed. Of the 400 or so species of sharks, however, few seek human prey. In reality, sharks have much greater reason to be afraid of us than we do of them. Both sharks and humans would be better off if rather than blindly fearing them, we tried to understand them instead. Understanding the Sharks Role in the Ecosystem Its true that sharks are ruthless predators, which leaves some people wondering if it really matters that millions of these marine killers are themselves killed each year. The short answer is yes. Sharks are important for a variety of reasons, many of which have to do with policing the ecosystems in which they live. A number of shark species are apex predators, which means theyre at the top of the food chain and have no natural predators of their own. The role of apex predators is to keep other species in check. Without them, the negative impact on an ecosystem could be severe for several reasons. Removal of an apex predator can lead to increased populations of smaller predators, which in turn, may cause a decline in prey populations overall. Likewise, while it was once thought that culling shark populations might result in an increase in commercially valuable fish species, this has not proven to be the case. In fact, sharks actually help maintain robust fish stocks by feeding on weak, unhealthy fish, which decreases the chances for disease to spread through fish populations. Threats to Sharks Their natural biology—It takes sharks a long time to reach sexual maturity and reproduce, and the typical female shark produces few offspring per mating cycle. As a result, once a population is threatened, it can take a long time to recover.Shark Finning—While the shark meat isnt always considered valuable, many species are prized for their fins, which are used to make shark fin soup and traditional medicines. Finning is a cruel practice in which a sharks fins are lopped off and the live shark is then tossed back into the sea to die. The fins dont have much flavor, but they have a prized texture or mouth-feel. Bowls of shark fin soup can cost more than $100. Many governments have developed laws that require sharks to be landed with their fins intact but the practice continues.Bycatch—Sharks are often unintentionally caught in the nets of commercial fishermen along with the fish they did mean to catch. Sharks require forward momentum to breathe. When trapped in a net, they often die.Recreational  Fishing—Some species of sharks are targeted by recreational and/or commercial fishing, which can result in overfishing. Many fishing tournaments and marinas are now encouraging catch-and-release practices.Commercial Fishing—Many shark species have been harvested commercially for  their meat, liver, and cartilage, as well as their fins.Coastal Development—Many coastal areas are crucial to sharks for birthing young and as habitat for immature sharks and their prey. The more humans encroach on coastal lands, the less healthy habitat is available for sharks and other marine species.Pollutants—When sharks eat tainted fish, they store pollutants such as mercury in their tissues through a process called bioaccumulation. The more the shark feeds, the higher the cumulative level of toxins becomes.Shark Nets—According to the International Shark Attack File (ISAF), in 2018 there were 66 confirmed unprovoked shark attacks worldwide, with five reported fatalities. (This figure was lower than the 2013 to 2017 average of 84 human/shark interactions per year.) In an effort to keep humans and sharks separate, shark nets have been installed at some swimming beaches as a safety measure. When sharks get caught in these nets, unless quickly released, they suffocate and die. How You Can Help Save Sharks Want to help protect sharks? Here are some ways to help: Sharks are threatened in large part because people believe they are voracious, indiscriminate predators. This is not the case.  Learn about sharks and educate your friends and family.Support laws protecting sharks and banning shark finning  around the world.Support shark research and conservation organizations by donating time or money. The more we learn about sharks, the more we learn about their importance.Scuba dive with sharks responsibly and support reputable dive operators.Do not consume or purchase shark products such as shark fin soup, shark leather, or jewelry.

Problem Solving of Behavioral Change of A Student

Question: Discuss about theProblem Solving of Behavioral Change of A Student. Answer: Behavior Change A Description of Scenario 3 Regarding the Themes. Intelligence demonstrated by the excellent results displayed by Brook in both class 7 and 8. He also exhibits good cognitive development through his ability to solve problems and decision making in any person (Rogoff, 1990). The theme of good memory is evident in the excellent results that he portrays all through class 7 and 8. Questions in class seven and eight most often do test the memory and in some instances intelligence (Alloway, 2010). The fact that he was a helpful student in class 7 shows that initially displays a theme of social and well-being. For him to be helpful, he must have interacted with those he was helping hence the aspect of socialization. And the fact that he was helpful to show that he cared about other peoples welfare regarding dignity, emotional, mental and physicals aspects. In class 8 we are told that Brook has become rude. There is an aspect of negative moral development. Initially, Brook did uphold the moral values and would care about other peoples feeling and would rather help maintain a healthy atmosphere. But the fact that in class eight he has been rude violates the moral values he had. Rudeness is not whatsoever associate with a good atmosphere. In fact, it presents a situation that mental and emotional distress to those that he addresses rudely. The rebellious act he presents in class eight shows a theme of negative influence from family, peer, media, and schooling. Media may have contributed to this behavior through misleading shows and programs (Slater, 1999). Parents may have come in very handy in case they dont agree on anything (Kazdin, Esveldt-Dawson, French, Unis, 1987). Where the family, in fact, dont make a joint decision through consultations. And the other party feels that his or her role and presence in the house is being ignored and to remind the husband or the wife of his or her presence and the need for a joint decision-making they rebel on every decision the other half does make. He would want to remove this steaming pressure inside him, and one of the available ways is through being rebellious to her teachers and fellow students (Abbey, Abramis, Caplan, 1985). His unruly behavior may have also been causing by his peers. Class eight is an adolescent age and is said to be so sensitive as they always want rec ognition', or they want a position' in the society (Spear, 2000). By observing his peers behavior and through some misleading advice,' he would change and become rebellious. Schooling forms a significant part in this as it is in schools that he finds his age group who influenced him to be rebellious. A situation of finding a positon and recognition in the school that he attends acts as a driving force to this (Brown, Clasen, Eicher, 1986). My Response as a Teacher that is Informed by the Themes. My informed response will heavily rely on five areas; creation of Brook's confidence me, seeking information, problem-solving, encouragement and evaluating the results. Problem-solving entails all the processes of finding the core reasons of a problem and working towards reaching a solution (Bandura, 1977). Creation of Brooks confidence in me As a concerned teacher, my first step in problem solving will be to sit down with Brook and engage him in a conversation. I will start the rapport by informing him how an excellent student he is in academics. This in itself will act as a pace starter for the conversation to make him feel at home with me. Given his good grades and report, I will encourage him to continue with that very spirit of academic excellence. By so doing he will feel delighted and more willing to open up to me compare (Barlow, Hersen, Barlow, Nock, Hersen, 2009). Seeking of Information The next step will be the introduction of the concerns that I have seen. I will inform him of the changes that I have seen in him. Remind him of how he displayed the value of Social and emotional well-being by helping others when he was in class seven. Then next I would inform him of his behavioral drift, from good to bad in that he recently has become rude and rebellious (Meichenbaum, 1977). Actual Problem-Solving In this stage I would incorporate five-stage model that would efficiently solve Brooks problem and would probably change his recent behavior for a better one; Understand the Problem Here I would let the student tell me what he thinks has been the cause of this change of behavior. I would do this by encouraging the student to describe the nature of the problems in his words. I will make the student understand the nature of the problems he has recently shown and how they may change him forever and even alter their goals (D'Zurilla, Goldfried, 1971). Describe any Barriers In this section, I will introduce a few examples of barriers that his new behavior can create for him, for example, a bad recommendation letter from the principle, poor relationship with colleagues and managers in areas of work, loss of the job as a result of excessive rebellions and others. I will encourage the Brook to verbalize these impediments as it is a major step if a change in behavior is ever going to be realized (Getzels, Jackson, 1962). Identification of Various Solutions After Brook has fully internalized the nature and parameters of being rude and rebellious, I will let him suggest a solution, or I could even present a couple of relevant to the problem and let him choose what he feels comfortable and efficient to him. By availing the different problem-solving technique am letting Brook know that his rudeness and rebellious behavior can be solved through various methods and that no single strategy will fully work in addressing these two. Try out a Solution When working out through an approach or combine strategy, I would encourage Brook to keep an accurate and up to date record of his decisions, thoughts, and procedure as it is an important part of problem-solving. I would also encourage him to work through a selected strategy until it is clear that they are working and that he has changed. It may need to be modified in case it yields an unexpected result. I would also encourage him to monitor the steps he undertakes as part of the solution. I would do this by telling him not to rush through the selected strategies to achieve the best behavior in him but move carefully and frequently monitor their progress. I would also encourage him to put a problem aside in case it is too difficult to handle and process and then came to it later. Like in the event in the event of rudeness is giving him to much trouble and has an effect on resolving both problems he should first deal with rebelliousness and when he is clean of it then focus on rudenes s. Evaluation of the Results Here I will encourage Brook and also take part in an assessment of his behavioral results. This will be through the multiple opportunities to assess his behavioral change as a situation to be rude or rebellious present itself. This process involves risk taking, independence, and self-assurance. This last stage will give Brook a clear image whether he is making progress of not (Hayes, Strosahl, Wilson, 1999). Background AT ten study A bakery or bakeshop is an establishment which produces and sells flour-based food baked in an oven such as bread, cakes, pastries and pies. The Bakery Shop leads users to distinguish that people have many wants, which wants are unlimited and resources are limited. The goal is to enable students to explain how resources can be used in different ways, identify goods and services, and recognize money as the commonly accepted average of exchange for goods and services. Customers expect bread to have a sufficient volume, an attractive shape and color, a mall piece that is finely and evenly distributed and is soft enough to chew but firm enough to slice. These quality characteristics can only be achieved through a combination of careful selection of ingredients and control of the manufacturing process. The customer needs must be documented and agreed, as this will enable the manufacturer to select the ingredients and define the control points within the process. Control of the process must arise during all stages, from selection of the ingredients and packaging materials through to delivery of the finished product and labeling information. Company Description The company located at Pedro Gill Manila, the 150 sq. Meters bakery owned by Roomer family which started on 2008. Here are the descriptions of the processes they perform in producing of bread: Preparation AT materials This includes the checking and obtaining the ingredient. Checking the temperature and preparing the water needed for the production. Weighing Materials The best quality product is achieved when the Bread Mix, water and yeast are used at the recommended proportions, each ingredient relative to the others is more important than the overall quantities. Mixing the dough using the kneading machine This is adding all the ingredients to the mixing machine, attach the dough hook to the mixer, and place the yeast, bread mix and water into the mixing bowl. For the optimum performance, the temperature of the dough after mixing should range from 28 to 30 degrees Celsius. They set the mixer into an appropriate speed until it is ready to knead. Beating Process Kneading distributes the yeast through the dough and develops and strengthens the gluten of the flour to form the framework of the bread. They are kneading by hand; this requires considerable effort to achieve the desired smooth and elastic dough necessary for the best result. Molding process On this process the dough will put on molding table to mold on different various design of the bread. After molding the dough, they store it on a cabinet then it will proceed on baking machine oven. Baking The breads are loaded quickly, but carefully into the oven for baking. Oven temperatures vary about 425 degrees Fahrenheit to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. When the baking process is complete, the breads are unloaded manually. The breads are allowed to cool for about 1 hour at which point the internal temperature of the bread drops to 100 degrees Fahrenheit and is ready to be sliced. Slicing the ready bread After cooling the bread it will proceed to slicing the bread. Display the Bread Finally, display the bread display uniquely so that the customer will attract to buy. Marijuana Paper

Marijuana Paper Marijuana Paper Alex Wolf November 6, 2014 Pro Medical, Anti-Recreational According to dictionary.com, marijuana is â€Å"the dried leaves and female flowers of the hemp plant, used in cigarette form as a narcotic or hallucinogen.† In our world today, marijuana is a hot topic because of the health advantages that come along with it. However, with advantages, there are disadvantages. The advantages are apparent when this narcotic is being used in a medical setting, under legal protection. If marijuana were legalized for recreational use, many bad side effects could come about concerning the health of the individuals who use and abuse this narcotic. Due to the health risks, medical marijuana should be legal in the United States, but recreational marijuana should remain illegal. To begin, marijuana can pose many good advantages when used in a proper setting and should be legal for medicinal purposes. For example, an article written by Anne Harding looked at the different areas that can be helped with marijuana. It has been proved to help with many chronic diseases. It can control muscle spasms when dealing with multiple sclerosis and it helps cancer patients with their nausea from the chemotherapy treatments. If someone’s appetite has declined due to diseases such as HIV, marijuana will help regain their food cravings and promote weight gain. Of course there are side effects to using marijuana in a medical setting, just like any other drug, but they are only temporary. They include dizziness, drowsiness and slight short term memory loss (Harding, 2013). Also, THC, the main ingredient in marijuana, is told to help reduce pressure in the eyes which in turn reduces glaucoma. A report filed in 2014 says the hemp in this drug is a strong reducer o f cancer, diabetes, ulcers, migraines and insomnia (â€Å"Marijuana,† 2014). When used for the right purposes, medical marijuana can be very beneficial. There are still many tests being done to see how marijuana helps others. If it is used under the right circumstances and for the right reasons, it can be used to treat many illnesses. Once the doctors have the knowledge and once marijuana is studied more, in the near future, marijuana should be able to be legalized under specific circumstances. However, there are many more bad side effects to smoking marijuana just for recreational use, and it should not be legalized. For example, on the White House website, it is claimed that one of the main areas affected by the misuse of marijuana is the brain. The THC affects areas in the brain called the cannabinoid receptors. Once the drug are in these receptors, reactions start to take place creating the â€Å"high† that people claim to feel. The â€Å"high† causes partial perceptions, it make it hard to think and problem solve because it harms coordination, and also affects memory and learning. Marijuana also affects the respiratory system by increasing the risk of heart attack five times more than one who does not use marijuana. It also has more cancer-causing toxins than cigarettes (â€Å"Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Marijuana†, 2010). An article titled â€Å"Facts about Marijuana† states that THC is stored in the fat of our brains so it can potentially stay there for up to one month. Improper use of marijuana can also weaken the immune system. It lowers the white blood cell count which help to fight off infection and illness. With a lowered number of white blood cells, marijuana users would not be able to fight off diseases as well. In women, because of the THC, ovulation and fertility may drop, and if a woman were to become pregnant while smoking marijuana, the toxins will affect the baby’s growth and development (â€Å"Facts about Marijuana,† n.d). The health and wellness of a person could decrease due to recreational marijuana use. Physical health is not the only area in which marijuana harms. Mental health and a person’s work, school and family relationships are affected as well. According to

How Soccer Explains the World Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

How Soccer Explains the World - Essay Example Franklin Foer, whilst penning this book has taken a close look at the role that soccer has played in the global cultivation of competition, mad rivalry that has sparked off a number of controversies, varied sagas and what not. He has discussed issues like world trade as well as the linkage of the Western culture where soccer celebrities like Zidane, Ronaldo and Beckham are perceived to be the biggest that there were and still are in the world. They have no less a value when we compare them to American President Bush or even the beheaded Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein. There are the sport mad societies that he has openly discussed as well as the role of this game in religions like that of Islam, the phenomenon like hooliganism and so on and so forth. The justification that Foer has provided raises quite a few eye brows since there is enough food for thought as concerns to the game itself and the working methodologies which go hand in hand with the Western way of doing things, one such igniting a level of competition that is bound to be remarked as unmatchable right from the onset. Franklin Foer has remained passionate throughout his book, so much so that his passion knows no boundaries whilst raising an energy which looks all the more contagious than anything else. The religious sentiments that he has brought forward are however a step further than the passion that he has discussed in his book courtesy the game itself. Foer has made sure that his book brings to life with the portraits and profiles of different players like the ones hailing from Nigeria and then there are the issues which restrict sports participation on the part of the Iranian women as well. There are the parallel worlds of Brazilian soccer as well as politics which Pele went into and hence game became so much more politicized as a result of this. What Foer wants to highlight is the fact that the aspect of globalization has

Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Media Essay

Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Media - Essay Example So, businesses have the responsibility to know their constituents (consumers or investors) (Borges, 2009; Aaker and Joachimsthaler, 2000). Social media has been the right place for authentic and transparent conversation between organisations and the stakeholders. It has helped organisations to be aware of the investors’ expectations. We completely agree with the statement that social media has enabled organisations to know their customers and investors. Inspiring the customers Presently, in the age of digitalization, social media has allowed organisations to realize taste and preferences of their customers and also influence them through a number of products and services (Aras, Aybars and Kutlu, 2010; Godfrey, Merrill, B. and Hansen, 2009). Social media has helped customers to identify themselves as individuals desire to maintain cordial relationship with the organisation or brand. The conversations exchanged between organisations and customers prove highly beneficial for both the parties. This in turn helps in building a strong sense of community (Zarella, 2009). Getting work doneThere are a number of organisations that have leveraged social media for triggering a viral chain of interest concerning corporate social responsibility activities, which are executed by organisations. The organisations generally communicate with their stakeholders and customers in order to gather knowledge about their interests and impart knowledge about their products and social responsibilities.

An Inspector Calls & play Essay Example for Free

An Inspector Calls play Essay Written by J. B. Priestley in 1945, An Inspector Calls is a play that follows the story of the Birling Family and their dealings with a woman, Eva Smith. The Birlings are a wealthy family and are happily celebrating an engagement when their evening is rudely interrupted by a police Inspector investigating the death of a working class girl. Throughout the course of the evening, the Inspector deftly uncovers their dirty little secrets and each of their involvements in the girls death. The play is set in an industrial town in the Midlands called Brumley. During 1912 in the Edwardian era, when the play was set, life was hard for the poor and even harder for women. There was very little help available for people and only the very desperate were given aid and even then they were sometimes not given enough. The local workhouse was available for the sick, old or handicapped but this was an unpleasant place. Women in 1912 were treated as inferior and they could not often do what men could; they were not allowed to vote, they were unlikely to go to university and get decent job and they were expected to give up their jobs once they were married. They did not have the same rights as men. The play starts with a long set of stage directions from which we learn a lot about the Birling family. They are wealthy as they employ a maid. It is also suggests that they are strongly ruled by their social duties and roles because it is said that Mrs Birling is socially superior to Mr Birling suggesting that society plays a big role in the familys life. This is further suggested by the fact that the men wear tails and white ties to a family dinner signifying that the family are very proper and must be formal at all times even in an informal setting. Even though it is quite formal, they are quite happy and cheerful as they have been celebrating a special occasion. The atmosphere is shown by the lighting which should be pink and intimate hinting at a happy care-free family feel. However, when the Inspector comes in, the lighting should be harsher as the entrance of the Inspector destroys the family atmosphere and creates a harsh atmosphere.

Margaret Atwoods The Handmaids Tale Essay example -- Atwood Handmaid

Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale In "The Handmaid's Tale", Margaret Atwood tells a saddening story about a not-to-distant future where toxic chemicals and abuses of the human body have resulted in many men and women alike becoming sterile. The main character, Offred, gives a first person encounter about her subservient life as a handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, a republic formed after a bloody coup against the United States government. She and her fellow handmaids are fertile women that the leaders of Gilead, the Commanders, enslave to ensure their power and the population of the Republic. While the laws governing women and others who are not in control of Gilead seem oppressive, outlandish and ridiculous, they are merely a caricature of past and present laws and traditions of Western civilization. "The Handmaid's Tale" is an accurate and feasible description of what society could be like if a strict and oppressive religious organization gained dominant power over the political system in the United States. Of course, one does not need to try to predict the future in order to get a picture of what life would be like if such a strict and oppressive religious organization obtained a stranglehold on our political system. However, we mustn't forget that the Inquisition did not end until the early 19th century, and that most Western Civilizations did not make strides towards equal rights for women until the 20th century.
